Wellington was the last destination of EventsHub road trip across New Zealand on the North Island. It was relatively long way from Rotorua to Wellington, and we decided to spend a night by Taupo lake in a beautiful Braxmere Lodge. That was just awesome. The cabins are perfectly planned inside, good kitchenware and stunning views to the lake. There was some sort of a private beach, however, we haven’t had enough time to swim there. If you need an accommodation in this area, I would strongly advise this place. Please, keep in mind it is relatively away from everything, so, it is good to have some food with you to cook a breakfast and enjoy it next morning outside by the lake…

EvetnsHub Road Trip

We had a very good rest that night and our batteries were fully recharged, so, we were ready to continue our way to Wellington. The Jaguar was floating on the road on its air suspension, and very torque V8 didn’t event feel a load through, regardless of its age and mileage. There in a famous McDonalds in Taupo, which is situated in an old DC3 plane, however, it was on renovation on that day, so we had no chance to see it inside… Anyway, our way came through many interesting places, including Desert Road and Mount Ruapehu view. Here was another disappointment, as the mount top was covered with overcasting clouds. The desert road itself is worth to see, however, this is quite a decent drive, so, allow some extra time to Drive from Taupo to Wellington.

Wellington is a beautiful city, located on a shore, and it is very windy. A heard, that this is the windiest city in the world. When we were walking through the central district of the city we had a chance to feel this wind pretty well. Anyway, there were some interesting stuff to see, we noticed an old floating crane, which appeared to be Hikitia with an interesting story on the background. The other place which took my attention was a Shipwreck Trading shop, where I found some genuine parts from ships which have been recycled before. If you like stuff like this, it is 100% worth to visit this place.

However, the most interesting was waiting for us up on a hill – this is the Wellington Cable Car which took us up to the hill with viewpoints and the cable car museum. I saw the same plane picture of the car many times in Internet, so, I took one as well, and you can see it here. The museum is worth to see as well.

As you my already heard, my wife Sofia is a fan of Lord Of The Rings movie, so, she was trying to find a place called Hobbit’s Hideaway on Mount Victoria, but we managed to find the signs only. Anyway, it was funny adventure. However, the Mount Victoria Lookout opens up an incredible view on the city at night, it was so magnificent, so I was not able to leave this place for a while, just watching the beautiful city lights in the dark.

Wellington located on hills, so, there are some concerns with parking around the city, please, considers it when you visit this beautiful place. Just before our ferry to Picton we had a wonderful lunch in USSR-style restaurant called Pravda. This place is decorated with many communists’ things, which makes you, feel in a different era in a different place. Even the tables look very genuine, Lenin busts and communist’s signs on different languages create a very special feeling. Anyway, we were a bit in hurry to the ferry, and the restaurant stuff cooked amazing delicious food for us reasonable quick. Friendly and professional, they know their job very well and the overall impression of this place is 5 of 5!
