Could you imagine a soft acoustic live music next to New Brighton Beach? Now I can, because I have been there and recorded some audio and video of amazing musicians performed there. Anna, Ken, Sylvie and Ashton, Rich, Wayne, Andy, Markus, Gavin, myself and many others. Perfect PA system set up for this little open air and engaged audience made this event truly warm and welcoming for everyone.
My wife was taking videos and pictures of performers and audience, while I was trying to record sound taking it from the phones output of the mixer and directing straight to the phone using my handmade recording adapter. One one of the pictures you can see me sitting on a grass with a phone in my hand, the red wire connected to the phone is coming to the mixing console phones output.
It was nice to see people with kids and pets there, some of the dogs were so friendly, Sofia played with them along the video and photo shooting.
We have released the only video of Gavin Coombs and it reached over 600 views for the first 24 hours, you can watch it in our Facebook profile. Some more videos are to follow, so keep an eye on the new reels released, you will not regret.
Although, the recording device was always connected, some of the songs have not been recorded as the output configuration was changed on the way. Sylvie and Ashton were performing some amazing originals, but I didn’t record them for this reason. If you, guys, are reading this, please, contact me, I would love to record your performance and post your events on our website.
Being close the end of the singers list, Gavin sang some high-energy songs, to be honest, I feel his voice and singing technique fit the music which he performs very well. As I mentioned before, one of the songs have already been posted as a reel on our Facebook and Instagram, however, the other one, most likely will be left as audio only.
Willie is just a brilliant host of events like this, he is doing it for about 20 years, and he can find an appropriate solution for anyone, who wants to perform on his open mics. For example, I took my Blackstar tube preamp and Line6 digital processor with me, we managed to quickly set it up on the stage and I performed three tunes, the first one was my short original and two others are Child Hood River (Alexander Vasilenko cover) and Lily Was Here (Candy Dulfer cover). Willie finalized the open mic event, he performed Sultans of the Swing on his guitar and harmonica, and that was beautiful.
If you play at home and want to ‘test a stage’, open mic events are the best playground for it, as people are not jugging there, the atmosphere is very relaxed, with the variety of performers skill level anyone fits into an open mic.
