Walking down the streets of Akaroa village, we would like to take you on an adventure to the world of Fire and Ice.

The wonderful building is located on Church Street. The house is beautiful by itself: yellow walls with green and red window frames are surrounded by flowers. And it is certainly the gemstone of the Akaroa 😊. But the most precious part awaiting is inside.

We were welcomed by Shaun – one of the artists of this workshop. He kindly allowed us to use their outdoor bench for our little guitar performance. Shaun is the passionate master jeweller of this place. He and his friends bring to life their ideas: from the concept to masterpiece! All the shelves are full of raw and polished gems, necklaces and bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings. The atmosphere of the workshop is relaxing and meditative.

In our talk, Shaun revealed a secret where people can be taught to craft the fine pieces with their own bare hands. This place is the Silversmiths’ Guild of Canterbury, which is located in Christchurch. And he also noted, that the main trait of a nice craftsman is patience. In turn, we agree with the master’s opinion.

After a warm chat we chose a magnificent jade pendant. Master Shaun explained to us kindly that this particular piece is a “flower jade”. It is named so for natural inclusions which can be white, orange or brown.
And you can see in the picture how the new owner is happy with her marvellous find 😊

If someone asks us about the Fire and Ice workshop’s gold vein, so to speak, we would answer: the passionate people. They made the dream come true – the place where the beauty of stones is being revealed every day, and where anyone can find something to wear, whether it’s jewelry or lovely aroma (yes, they can make aromatherapy essential oils too!). Thank you, Akaroa and the Fire and Ice workshop for the beautiful adventure ❤️
