CMC Kennedy Lecture: The Kennedy Slides

In memory of William Alexander (Will) Kennedy

🗓 Tuesday, October 7, 2025
🕖 Doors open 7:00 PM | Lecture begins 7:30 PM
📍 TSB Space, Tūranga Library

This year’s Kennedy Lecture is a special one. As part of our Centenary celebrations, we’ll be reflecting on the Kennedy Slide Collection — thousands of photos donated by Will Kennedy, made up of both his own work and carefully curated images from other climbers.

Canterbury Museum, who now hold and have digitised the collection, will speak about the importance of archives like these. John Wilson will then share the story of the Kennedy Slides and their enduring significance for our club and the wider alpine community.

Pre-lecture social at Casa Publica from 5:30pm! Join us to meet new faces, scheme new adventures and have a yarn.

About Will Kennedy

Will Kennedy (1865–1950) was one of CMC’s most influential figures, serving as President for 15 years and shaping the early years of the club. A passionate teacher, climber, and photographer, he dedicated his life to introducing others to the mountains. His name lives on in Kennedy Lodge, the Kennedy Lecture, Mt Kennedy, Kennedy Falls, and the Kennedy Orchestra — testament to his deep and lasting influence.

Join us on October 7 for an evening rich in club history as we honour Will Kennedy and celebrate 100 years of CMC
