Grimes Street Gang Rides Again!

Report

Harking all the way back to their formation in 1971, the wonderful Grimes St Gang have reformed for a special ‘one night only’ show, still sporting a good proportion of original members! Bringing you their own delightful, fun mix of trad jazz, barbershop, and New Orleans jazz – plenty to get your bones up and moving to!

Grimes Street Gang were a massive hit back in the day, playing all over the country at parties, varsity ‘steins’, pub residencies, university cappings, socials, and festivals – they even appeared on TVOne’s New Faces. They played alongside the likes of Blerta, Sam Hunt, Hone Tuwhare and more at the 1972 Wanganui Serenity Festival, and Jerry Burke and Allan Hawes even wrote and produced a comic opera which was produced by the band and performed at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre to great critical acclaim.

Featuring Allan Hawes, Andrew Lee, Steve Krenek & Jerry Burke, with Hugh Campbell & Michael Russell, this will be a night to remember! Let’s hope it’s not the last ‘one night only’ show that these lads get back together for!!

Free entry.
