Matariki Night Sky Talk– Dr John Forbes University of Canterbury

Join us for a Night Sky Telescope viewing and educational talk in Sumner July 9th 6:30pm at Matuku takotako.

Matariki is a star cluster whose rise marks the new year for Iwi all over Aotearoa. Where did it come from, and what will happen to it in the future? In this talk Dr. John Forbes from the University of Canterbury will give us a view into how these famous stars formed, how they wound up in our sky, and how they have helped astronomers figure out how big the Universe is.

We will be able to view the night sky through the university telescope, weather permitting.
